This is the first book in the series, and focuses on the poly couple Elijah, Jonathan, and Dakota. Elijah is a Blood Born dragon, coming from a line of royal dragons. He needs to find partners who are dragonblood in order to reproduce. However, he’s been alone for decades, thinking that his chance for love and family would never come. One day, he gets a whiff of his mates in the air, and that’s when he encountered Dakota and Jonathan. Their real identities are not known to them, but seeing Elijah is bringing up some new feelings and instincts in them.
This book took some time to set up the back story, and spends a lot of the book building up the emotions and yearning between all three characters. There’s lots of confusion, but a lot of desire too. It’s interesting to see the dynamics change between all three of them, and you can’t help but root for them to become a family and be there for each other. There’s a BDSM element to this, as Elijah’s mates are submissive to him. He gives them time and space to get used to him, but he couldn’t wait to convince them that they all belong together.
