Claimed by Noah and Jacob: A Dad’s Best Friend Story

The heat is almost unbearable. The HVAC technician has been here for hours and he still can’t fix the problem with the air conditioning. It’s almost 100 degrees outside and I swear it’s 150 degrees inside.

Everybody is grumpy and sweaty and miserable and even the veterans have all left to find cooler quarters. Meanwhile, the three of us sit around staring at each other and grumbling.

“Okay guys, I’m sorry, but it won’t happen today. I tried to make do with what I have, but I need to order the new part, and the soonest I can get it here is tomorrow,” explains Bob our heating and cooling guy.

“All right, I give up too,” says Noah throwing up his hands and shrugging his very broad shoulders. “Let’s just go home and work from there. Alicia, you can leave your car here and ride with us. Bob, if you could order the new part please, and get the air conditioning running as soon as you can, that would be great.’
“Will do. Sorry about that fellas. You know I appreciate the work you do here, but my hands are tied until that part comes in.”

“Don’t worry about it Bob, it’s not your fault. We’re all a little cranky in this heat,” explains Jacob.
Bob shakes everyone’s hand, “You folks all go somewhere you can cool off and I’ll order the part and come back tomorrow!”

I’ve been interning for my dad’s two best friends for a month, at the Veteran’s Center they started after they made a ton of money selling their ride sharing startup company several years ago.

My dad thought it would be good for me to interact with a variety of people because I’m painfully shy and geeky. I’m not sure that working for his two incredibly sexy best friends is the best way for a person like me to overcome her awkwardness though.

They exude so much sex appeal I can barely look at them half the time. And they’re twins so it’s twice as uncomfortable.
