He needs to ditch the attitude he has about her. She needs to get over her inconvenient attraction to him.

Successful Chicago real estate developer Spencer D’Angelo will do anything for his family. Well, almost anything. When it comes to his younger sister’s best friend, curvy blonde bombshell Harper Mitchell, all bets are off. Spencer is inexplicably drawn to Harper, but he’s never trusted her. Things just don’t add up. Harper’s trouble with a capital T, even if the rest of his family doesn’t see it, and adores her.

A California native, Harper unexpectedly finds herself jobless and homeless after the Feds raid the real estate firm she’s been working for. When her bestie’s brother, Spencer, the sexy, arrogant Italian who’s starred in way too many of her late night fantasies, begrudgingly offers her a place to stay in Chicago, she jumps at the chance to escape the chaos and darkness that have overtaken her life.

Harper and Spencer have traded insults and barbs from a distance for years, but now they can’t avoid each other. As their scorching chemistry ignites, Spencer becomes protective of her and Harper discovers there’s more to Spencer than his polished, business persona.

How can they continue on as the rivals they’ve always been?

What will happen when Harper’s secrets finally catch up with her?

Trigger warning for mentions of alleged child sexual assault, mentions of suicide, and attempted sexual assault on-page.

This is a 3.5 star read. The blurb indicates a different story and I went in expecting a jobless, homeless heroine and, it turns out, that’s not quite the story. Do you ever wonder why there are main characters everyone trips over to help? This is one of those stories. The MFC has friends that their families treat HER like she’s family…so odd for women who met as college students to have whole families meeting and adopting your bestie as their own. And this main character, for whatever reason, was left 2 million bucks by her disgraced boss in an offshore account, why? I’m not sure. It’s a work situation, I don’t get it nor the explanation that the boss didn’t want her to have to depend on her step father, it’s all very odd.
What’s good about the story: Harper and Spencer are explosive together! Side characters are awesome!
What’s not so good: the drolling on and on about real estate with detailed information; I don’t need that and I was shocked when I saw a “registered trademark” in this story. Also tiresome the endless detail about clothing, the finely appointed houses the elevators in the homes, etc, etc…it’s all very boring. There’s a lot of name dropping and Harper and her friends went to Harvard and all have Harvard MBAs and apparently did their undergrad there too, I guess. I don’t mind billionaire romances and this is what this romance is, however, I don’t like all the greed and the description of the billionaire “king of his world” without some kind of philanthropic involvement of some kind. This whole story is about a bunch of one percenters rolling in their privilege.
