Big Black Free Use in the Library

The library is supposed to be my sanctuary, a quiet place to survive finals week. The silence is broken when two men appear at the end of the aisle. They are massive, imposing, and they don’t look like they’re here to study.

They know my name. With low, rumbling voices, they tell me a story that can’t possibly be real—about a convergence, about another dimension, and about how I’ve been chosen. They say that until sunrise, I have a new purpose. That I belong to them.

My mind screams that it’s a prank, but the intensity in their eyes feels intensely real. As they watch me, a strange, hot pulse begins to beat deep inside me. A darker, curious part of me is waking up.

They aren’t asking. They are informing me of my fate for the night. And the most shocking thing of all is my own reaction—a whisper inside that tells me to give in, to surrender, and to discover the person I’m about to become.
