Cora’s First Exam: A Medical Foursome

I stayed on campus this summer to take three extra classes rather than getting a full-time job like most of my friends. Which is great, because it allows me to graduate a semester early, but it also means I’m short on funds so when I see an ad looking for demonstration patients for medical students I take a second look.

Female college students to serve as demonstration patients for medical students and supervising doctor. Students must be willing to submit to complete exam. Demonstrations will focus on the gynecological exam as well as sexual response rates. Must be comfortable with nudity and medical procedures. $500 stipend.

Yikes, I think. That could be embarrassing and uncomfortable. And I’ve never even had a gynecological checkup. Partly because I’m scared to. It seems so invasive. And this involves more than one doctor! All staring at me and touching me while I’m naked. Although I assume I’d at least get one of those paper gowns to cover myself. But what can they mean by sexual response rates? But $500 is a lot of money and how bad could it get, really?

I call the number on the ad and talk to the receptionist. She tells me it will be a professor and two students and they’ll not only examine me, but run a battery of tests to test my responses to sexual stimuli as well. I gulp. This isn’t sounding so great.

“Why do they test sexual responses?” I ask.

“Because Dr. Butler is not only a Board Certified gynecologist specializing in sexual dysfunction and gratification. They’ll use the data they get from this study to help women who, for whatever reason, have difficulty achieving orgasm and satisfaction with sex,” she explains.

“Oh. So it’s not only a way for me to make extra money I’m also helping other women in the process?”

“Yes, exactly,” she answers. “If you would like to proceed with the study, we’ll have you come in as soon as you can for an initial exam with Dr. Butler where we’ll explain the details and make sure you’re a good candidate for this.”

Butterflies are kicking up a fuss in my stomach just thinking about this but I tell the receptionist that I would like to know more and I’m willing to see the doctor to discuss it.

I show up for the appointment on Friday morning and I’m a bundle of nerves. I really need the stipend but what will I have to do and why do they have to see me before the full practice exam? The nurse shows me to the examining room.

“Wait in here for the doctor, he should be here in just a moment,” she tells me.

“Okay, thank you,” I add.

After a few minutes the doctor comes in the room and I’m startled by how hot he is. I mean he’s movie star hot. I’m rethinking my decision to take part in this practice exam. I assumed the doctor would be some old fuddy duddy, but this guy is smoking hot. How can I take this seriously? I’m mortified that I have to take my clothes off for him and let him examine me while others watch.
