I slip out of her office and make my way to the phone. My fingers shake as I dial the familiar number. It rings once, twice, then… “Hello?” My mom’s voice, tentative but hopeful.

“Hi, Mom. It’s me.” I swallow hard, suddenly choked up. “I… I’m sorry. For being such a brat. I’m ready to come home now, if that’s okay.”

Silence stretches over the line, and for a heart-stopping moment, I’m terrified she’ll refuse. But then I hear a sniffle, and when she speaks again, her words are thick with emotion.

“Oh, Tiffany. You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that. Of course it’s okay. I’ll be there first thing tomorrow morning to bring you home.”

Tears spill down my cheeks as we say our goodbyes. For so long, I thought my mom was the enemy, but now… now I see how much I’ve missed her. How much I want to repair our relationship.
