What’s an honest man to do? Isn’t that always the question we find ourselves wondering when we get swept up in something bad… Something overpowering and tangibly wrong, with the ability to corrupt our morals down to the core?

These boys, they’re not mine, but they might as well be. I’m responsible for them, in a sense. And they couldn’t be more different, identical in looks alone.

One I’ve noticed… The other has noticed me.
One needs me, the other needs him.

Sometimes a hero will fall on his own sword, but in my case… I’ve fallen on two.

Really amazing story – loved the twins

Wow! Wtf Nyla!?! I swear each book I read of hers I just fall harder and harder for her work. Blown the f**k away currently.

I get why this book had a bunch of hoorah surrounding it. But damnnn this book was AMAZING! Check triggers. Seriously DO NOT go into this one lightly.

Okay Somethings I loved about this book. There’s lots so let’s try and condense em:
Love. This story is about love. Good or bad. Wrong or right. Love is just something that is worth it!
These characters have a piece of me now. Absolutely obsessed.
The growth you see in this one is phenomenal.
    Swooned for so many parts.
And let me tell ya the spice. Whoaaaaaa. Straight fire!

Cyrus. He’s just a character that drew me in so quickly. He’s sweet and has this side that wants to be bad. But he wants to do what the world says is what you should do. Oh how he made me feel so many things.

Colson. This character . Wow. Absolutely felt every damn thing for him. He is just everything. Cannot say enough about him. Gahhhhh he broke me.

Tauren. He’s an untold hero. Ohmygosh seriously how it all progresses with him was perfect for me. Wasn’t rushed or pushed. Just was inevitable. Seriously he was frickin FANTASTIC! LOVEDDDD his mouth!

Nyla puts ya through the ringer with her books. This one for sure does that. Goodness my feels. Seriously cannot get enough of her work and I am now a forever fan! Well I was right from Serpent In White… but whoa even more now!

As Nyla said, & as the reviews so clearly show, this book isn’t for everybody. It sure as hell was for me though!

What I got from this story was the reflection of different levels of internal struggles, how confusing our minds can be, and sometimes trying to fit ourselves into the box defined by society can be harmful AF. So much of this book goes against ‘human nature’, from Colson & Cyrus’s relationship, to the fact that the two people who should have loved them & kept them safe were the two biggest threats to their lives. Dark, complex, straddling the lines of wicked & wrong, the whole thing was a battle.

    TROPES +THEMES
    MMM Romance
Taboo / Forbidden (siblings / stepdad)
    Age Gap
    Proximity
    Dom / Sub kink
    Mental Health
    ‘Us against the world’ vibe

    To Summarize (vaguely)
Twins Colson & Cyrus have the terrible parents. Abusive. Dismissive. Neglectful. And that’s brushing the surface. They really only have eachother to lean on, the only person they feel like understands them is the other… until Tauren (stepdad) comes into the picture.
Cyrus AKA the good twin, struggles with social anxiety. He is a genius, and cares about one thing aside from learning, and that is his brother.
Colson, AKA the bad twin. He is the extrovert to Cy’s introvert. The loud & tough to Cy’s quiet & nervous.
Tauren, AKA the hero. He is open & drawn to the twins in a mentor-ish way right from the start. Eventually things heat up, but it’s so much more than just sex or phyiscal attraction.
You need to read to learn the details 🙂 I won’t spoil it.

    I loved Colson & Cyrus.
Tauren is mostly punchable idk why I feel that way though… maybe it’s his hero complex. Regardless of wanting to punch him, I still liked him
I also wanted to reach into the book and punch Carla Becker (mom) in the face multiple times. What a loathsome asswipe.

My revie on Goodread is quite different, but if you’re here, I assume you’re not coming out for the witch hunt & therefore I don’t need to get up on my soapbox 🙂

Banned on Amazon, you say? Order me the ebook and paperback on Eden Books then please! .

Double-edged is a Nyla K. book, so you should know what you’re getting into and if you don’t, let me clarify – great writing, complex and endearing characters, HIGH steam , a lot of angst and (generally) something twisted .

If you have triggers, do make sure you read the author’s statement at the start of the book before proceeding, because Double-edged will not be for everyone. But if you like reading outside of your comfort zone, or are generally a Nyla K. fan, you will LOVE this one.

I’ve never read anything quite like this story. I read the foreword and was a bit hesitant, but I knew that I would be missing out on a great story if I didn’t give it a chance, and I’m glad I did.
An intense read that will stay with you long after you read it! These characters have my heart, and I love how they’re connection and how they bring emotions and desires out of the other. When these characters finally let go and fully give in it’s intense. Nyla writes steamy scenes like no other! The story had plenty of drama that didn’t ever get to a point where it was over the top or just didn’t fit with the story.
This story had me engaged from start to finish! Sexy and angsty writing! A must read!

  6. Kimberly Davis (verified owner)

Nyla K really outdid herself. Loved the energy of the characters. Loved the hot & steamy moments. I never wanted this book to end!! If you love taboo & MMM, this book is for you!

  7. domijackson4 (verified owner)

What… what did I just read?!
I want to be completely transparent and state that I have never actually read anything TRULY taboo before. The things I read tend to be forbidden and frowned upon, but nothing has reached this level for me so this was definitely a first! That being said, I absolutely loved this book. Nyla K has a way of bringing things to life that I would never even dream of. Is this relationship wrong? Absolutely, in so many ways. But somehow when reading you’re rooting for the guys to make it rather than thinking “ew! wtf?!”
Nyla’s talent makes you love this story rather than question it, and that’s an aspect I love in an author! She had me LOVING the differences between the twins from page one and I was hooked throughout the whole story. Definitely one you want to read, but I highly suggest paying attention to the author’s note before reading!

  8. Jodi Johnston

This book is EVERYTHING I look for in a story. I finished a couple of days ago and still cannot seem to move on from it. The character building was perfect. I was invested in all 3 of these MCs within a couple of pages of their introductions. This story grabbed ahold of me and didn’t let go, not even after I finished reading. It was HOT HOT HOT. But also it was sad and angsty and riveting. SHEER PERFECTION. For those of you that do not like taboo…..please do not read this book. This is unapologetically taboo and I LOVED every single second of this ride. I will read this book again. And Again. I miss Tauren, Col and Cy already.

  9. Nicki Dawn (verified owner)

This was wild. I’m not sure how to even describe this book lol! Leave it up to Nyla K to deliver ultimate taboo. So if that isn’t your jam, please skip this book!
This story is about identical twins, Colson and Cyrus. They have been raised in a mansion in Solana Beach, California. Their father is physically abusive and their mother neglects them. The twins have always shared a deep bond, and are close in EVERY way. They are obsessed with each other, specifically Colson.
After their father is arrested and sent to prison, they move into their aunt’s house with their mom. Soon after, their mom meets Tauren. He is a young entrepreneur who is super successful. He also has a hero complex. To be honest, I’m not really sure I understand the full reasoning on why he married her mother, but it is what it is lol. When he meets Colson and Cyrus he wants to help them. He wants to provide stability. Each of the twins struggles with mental health. After a while, the dynamic begins to shift between Tauren, Colson & Cyrus. This leads them all on a soul searching journey. I can’t say much more without spoiling the story, but I’d like to note that Nyla didn’t let me down with the spice. *cough Chapter 21
I love Nyla’s books. They are unique and the storylines are always so out of this world. This book is available on Edenbooks!

  10. HLHahn712

My heart was not ready for this one. The characters in this book are holding my heart hostage. Cyrus, Colson and Tauren are beautifully broken, all in their own ways. Nyla K does an amazing job of bringing you along on their journey (together and separately) and tying you into everything that is them.

You can feel the struggle of all of them trying to really discover who they are as people. All the mental and emotional things that they are struggling with- all of which are limitations placed on them by society. They struggle with how they are perceived by others, how they truly feel in their hearts, and what their “family” and friends think.

That brings me to Carla…. But let’s not go there right now and ruin a good thing.

Hmmm… nevermind…. Let’s go there. There are so few authors that have truly made me HATE a character… LOATHE a character…. Like Nyla K has done with Carla (and Dustin too, but CARLA…. OMG!) You’ll find yourself googling ways to hide the body…. But I digress.

In short, and trying not to put spoilers out there (SO DIFFICULT!!!!) Nyla K is truly a master of her craft. If you enjoy taboo stories that reach out and crush you, only to gently put you back together again, to then pull the rug out from under you, before laying you back in a field of daisies with a nice glass of wine…. Then this is completely for you.

Their story, though edgy and taboo, is completely beautiful in it’s own right.

Be sure to read all the trigger warnings, because there are quite a few. If this isn’t your cup of tea, no worries! But please don’t look past the trigger warnings, read the book, and then write a negative review because you were triggered. That’s on YOU my friends.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go wrap Cyrus, Colson and Tauren in warm blankets and snuggle them forever.

“We’ve already sacrificed ourselves to the sin, like a door torn off its hinges; opened permanently. There’s no saving us now.”

GUYS. Nyla done did it again.

If you are a fan of taboo romances, you have to put ‘Double-Edged’ on your TBR. It’s an extremely taboo, angsty and very character driven book that will suck you in from the very first page. Make sure to read the foreword before you dive in so you have an idea of what you’re about to read.

‘Double-Edged’ is about Cyrus and Colson, both struggling in their own ways to deal with their life. The only person they can depend on and find comfort in is eachother, so they do. Until on day, Tauren their new stepfather steps into their life. Tauren believes his life is only missing one thing, a family. Turns out the puzzle that is his life wasn’t missing one piece but two.

I don’t want to give away much in this review because I totally believe you should go into this book blind, let yourself be swept away in all the angsty steamy goodness that is ‘Double-Edged’. After you have read the foreword ofcourse to check if it contains any triggers for you.

  12. Mandy Munholland

No one does taboo like Nyla K ! This story was so captivating it’s a extremely taboo forbidden mm the writing was excellent the characters were amazing this story touched on some heavy topics and was very emotional I was completely immersed in the story I couldn’t put it down! Another five star masterpiece from this author but be warned this book is extremely taboo super hot and May make some feel uncomfortable but I personally loved it!

  13. Tanya

Let me say this rn if taboo is not your thing DO NOT READ THIS. If you’re looking for where to start on taboo DO NOT READ THIS.

This book probably has every wrong thing a story could have and I ate it all up and left no crumbs. Was I nervous to read it? Yes because this is my first book with incest involved & tbh I’m glad I trusted Nyla to be the one to break my virginity.

The relationship dynamics between each of these men were very complex and different than the next. The twins each have mental health issues which I thought was handled with such care. My heart aches for both Cyrus & Colson with the cards that they were dealt.

Now Tauren idk if I actually loved him or not. The whole “hero” role that he was supposed to be playing was a bit lacking for me. His entire introduction into the story was odd & his reasoning for marry their mother even more so. Outside of that I enjoyed his character & the role he played in the boys lives. I don’t really need to talk about the spice do I? Idts 5/5

For my first actual ince$t book I am not mad one bit. I really enjoyed this. Like I said in the beginning if you have any triggers or qualms do not read it. Don’t go into something you know isn’t your cup of tea only to bash the author. It makes no sense.

  14. raunchyromancereviews

You know that feeling when you finish a book and decide *well shit I guess I’ll be productive now* but instead find yourself staring off into space just thinking about the characters .. that is me with this story. I’ll come out and tell you this book is not for everyone, but if you are willing to take a walk on the wild side and open your mind [and ♥️], you will be B•L•O•W•N A•W•A•Y. Cyrus and Colson are identical twins with a cushy life but a shit upbringing. Colson is outgoing and grungy, while Cyrus is shy and a genius. Let’s just say their relationship is more than brothers and they turn to one another for comfort, both physically and emotionally. Colson is extremely possessive of Cyrus [truly my absolute favorite thing about this book – we all love a possessive twin, amiright?]. Their father does some bad shit and lands in jail, which leads to their mother remarrying to uphold her status in SoCal society .. *ENTERS TAUREN VANCE* a self made millionaire with a whole lot of money and heart to give. Tauren is immediately drawn to the twins [bye Carla ] and their relationship takes things to the next level when he finds out the twins are into each other [truly twin MM + stepdad? I cannot and will never recover ‍]. A review can only scratch the surface of this book — there is love, there is heartache, there is betrayal, there is drama, and there is a whole lotttta spice. This book is EVERYTHING and these three men have set up camp right inside my damn heart. “We’ll always be in between real love and real life.”

p.s. I am not going to go into the trigger warnings of this book because Nyla K does a phenomenal job of taking care of that on PAGE ONE. We are all adults here, so go with your gut on this one. I promise you, it’s a story worth reading and these men are broken and beautiful beyond anything you can imagine.

  15. Janina Steves

Ok, so, DOUBLE-EDGED … good god, this book is wickedly filthy. I mean … seriously. And I’m not even talking about the forbidden aspect of this trio’s relationship. It’s the connection these three share. Deep, intense, all-consuming.

This book is very much character-driven. There isn’t much left and right happening, instead, it focuses on the complexity and development of the MCs and their strengthening, deepening, evolving relationship. It covers various sensitive topics, starting with the questionable taboo love, to parental abuse and mental health problems.

Two boys who shouldn’t feel what they feel for one another, while on the other hand it seemed almost inevitable, given that they’ve always been one another’s strongest supporter in a childhood home that was far from homey. Their circumstances at home change when their new stepdad, Tauren, steps into the picture, who somehow seems to know exactly what each of the boys needs …

I love getting glimpses into Nyla K.’s wicked, filthy mind. Her sex scenes are always out of this world hot. And this book has plenty! That being said, and while knowing her books are always thiccc, I wished this one were a tad shorter.

Be warned, this book is far from safe. Besides the brothers, the mental health issues, there’s also the fact the boys are underage when the duo becomes a trio, and there’s cheating, too. There are more triggers, but they could be considered spoilers, so I’ll stop here. Proceed with caution and a change of panties – or better yet, your b.o.b. on hand, you’ll need them!

  16. Barbi

When the ultimate twin swap turns into the ultimate experience of your life!!!!

Colson and Cyrus are twins. Their home life is broken. Their mom is anything but. Then one day mom brings home Tauren. Her new husband. Their Step-father. Yea so you know where this is going…but do you? This book goes beyond the taboo/forbidden love that each one finds and brings forth their mentality. Because we all know getting what we want doesn’t always equate to being happy. Especially when others are in your way, especially when you know you shouldn’t be happy at their expense. But who is to say their happiness should supersede yours?

Nyla does what Nyla does better than most, she gives us a beautiful MM story full of emotion, angst, and steam. Not just that, she has a way with bringing us into the minds of those that wouldn’t normally go the MM route. We get to experience their experience with them. This is one of my favorite things about Nyla K. books. She holds our hands and walks us through a journey, a journey to a very delicious HEA.

If you love MM, if you love taboo, if you love feeling every emotion the characters feel, then run, don’t walk, run and read Double Edged.

    Read Responsibly.

  17. Biggs_bookshelf

Unlike anything She’s written before this book is a masterpiece of taboo mmm romance. If you have any issues with taboo, forbidden romances just keep walking past. Please take a minute or two to read the warning she puts out because going in blind may just shock some one who isn’t into anything off the path. Now that the warnings is past let’s talk about this book.

It’s is raw and emotional and gut wrenching. This MMM age gap with twins is a rollercoaster of everything. Love, heat, twistedness and darkness and just over all effed up moments of epic proportions. It’s so well written with so much heart and feeling and may having you questions you’re own lines because the love is soul deep.

Not everyone is going to like every book but go into this book with you’re eyes wide open because the author takes great efforts to warn you this isn’t for the faint of heart.

  18. Csbell

Double-Edged is one of My most anticipated books of the year—the twins win in my eyes. So far, My favorite book from the author. Not only is there a forbidden/taboo factor, which doesn’t feel shocking, it feels normal and loved. The book is intense, with mental health being upfront and present. I felt so many emotions. The book touched my heart and soul. As always, I will be vague and not give any spoilers.

Cyrus and Colson have such a deep, beautiful connection. Their home life is less than stellar. Just because you come from money doesn’t mean you have it all. Cyrus is a genius, while Colson is the bad boy. Both struggle with mental health issues. One more so than the other. I can’t forget Tauren. Older and caring. He sees the twins for whom they are and not what their parents treat them as. He can be my hero any day. The Chemistry is off the charts with all three. As much as I love all three, Colson is my favorite. Always the broken bad boy.

Nyla K has a way with her writing that draws you in from the start and keeps your attention. Double-Edged is that. Plus, so much more, and I feel like she wrote with all her emotions. The worlds just flowed off the pages, and I felt every single one of them. I swear she writes some of the steamiest sex scenes. Have extra knickers on hand—ten out of five on the steam factor.

It’s been several days since I have read this book; I am still here thinking of it and will talk to anyone about it. This book is a masterpiece. I loved every minute of reading it. I will add I am envious of those who experience this book for the first time. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Read those trigger warnings. This book is not for everyone, and that is okay.

  19. heareads

Let’s get the important part of the book out of the way first. This book is extremely taboo, in the sense that twin brothers find love with each other and then with their stepfather. If this isn’t something you are comfortable with, I would suggest passing this book up. However, if you are ok with this, get comfy and be prepared for what is about to come your way!

Colton and Cyrus have never felt like part of their family. Their mum and dad have no real-time for them, with nannies bringing them up. Colton gets it worse at home, known as the bad twin, trying to lead Cyrus astray, when in fact it’s both of them who have an attraction to each other.

When their dad gets sent to prison, their mum meets Tauren and although he likes the mum, he likes the idea of a family, something he has never had and has a deep need to look after the twins.

Colton can sense tension between Tauren and Cyrus and sets out to fool Tauren so that he can use it as blackmail to get him away from Cyrus, leaving Colton and Cyrus to be together, just the two of them.

From here, things turn extra spicy, although there are a few hot scenes before this with the brothers .

Nyla is known for writing the BEST spice! And these MMM interactions are pure fire and filth so make sure your batteries are charged !

All three of these main characters have such depth of character. Colton and Cyrus are both broken, fighting their own battles and the character growth individually is outstanding. With Cyrus, he was shy and a recluse, keeping to himself with Colton being his comfort, to owning who he was, fighting for what he wanted and I loved his newfound confidence.

Colton is the one who owns my heart though. He’s deeply troubled, believing that he’s not worthy. He’s been messed with by those who are supposed to love him and things take a dark turn (TW – suicide attempt) and I ached and blead for him at how unworthy he felt when he was so loved.

The transformation of these boys wouldn’t have been possible without Tauren. He took these boys in, asserted his dominance – something both of them needed and most importantly, showed them how to love and be loved in return.

What I wasn’t expecting was how emotional this book was, the book is very character-driven, Nyla getting right into their heads, showing us their struggles and how they fight them.

This was an anticipated read for me along with everything Nyla releases. I love her openness with what she writes, pushing boundaries and as a reader, I die for her words!

If taboo is your thing and you are open-minded with what you read, this book is for you!

An ARC received for an honest opinion

Before I get into my review, I have to give a little disclaimer if you plan to read Double-edged. Make sure you read Nyla’s foreword. Don’t dive into this book blindly if you might have triggers with the taboo aspects of this book. If you are open-minded and not put off by the foreword, and what I have to say intrigues you, please make sure to read this book.

I admit I was thrown off at first by the tw!n$ aspect of this book, but as an avid Nyla K reader I trusted her to write a book with situations & characters that would challenge me and open my mind. Double-edged did exactly that.

Cyrus and Colson’s relationship as brothers and eventually more was so well-written. There is no doubt in my mind these two need each other on another level. Intrinsically. It might not be “right” or “accepted”, but the beauty of Nyla’s writing is I believed they were 100% necessary to each other. Nyla showed this constantly through the dialogue and scenes.

Then Tauren Vance enters into the picture. Ya’ll. Stepdaddy Tauren is also a necessity. Again. This is a taboo romance and Tauren added to the taboo/forbidden aspect of their story in the best way. The emotions embedded into Nyla’s words had me hating Tauren’s wife (and birth person of the twins) with every fiber of my being.

Tauren’s bond grows with Cyrus and Colson. I loved each moment. Cyrus is the nerdy, shy, quiet twin who comes alive when discussing his passions. Colson is an emo, bad boy musician. Tauren finds a way to relate to both of them. It isn’t quick or easy for all of them, but each man is a vital piece of their relationship as a whole. And Nyla shows us this countless times throughout Double-edged.

As with any Nyla book, be ready for ALL of the dirty, smutty steamy scenes. Twists and turns that will leave you so upside down you feel like you were on a rollercoaster. And definitely expect a book hangover afterward. Nyla will always lead you on an unexpected journey and there were so many moments that surprised the heck out of me. But it also made me appreciate Nyla’s writing all the more. I am so impressed by the growth of Nyla’s writing. She has a true talent for how complex and deep her storylines delve. There is true power in her words. I highly recommend this book if the foreword does not deter you.

“Unrequited love is like an illness that kills you slowly and painfully every single day.
But moments like this … They’re the cure. A tourniquet for those bleeding, loveless wounds. ”

Each time nyla releases a book I say it’s my favorite
This book has a special place in my heart, why? because no one understands the connection between twins as much I do ( I have a twin too), No one gets the bond, the feelings and the protectiveness.
It’s like having one soul in two bodies.

while reading double-edged, it felt as if Nyla didn’t just write it down and get it done with it , No she described it in its rawest form, the love (love/ hate/envy/ jealousy…. Basically everything)

So as I mentioned before we have a twin : Colson and Cyrus, these identical, couldn’t be so different and opposite from each other.

Colson : bad twin, black sheep, troublemaker, social butterfly, jaded, lost, the reject/ the outcast but this one is the most vulnerable of them all.

Cyrus : good twin, Nerd, hardworking, socially awkward, quiet, shy.

Tauren: the step dad with a heart of gold add a hero complex ( he always wants to save people ), Charming, easygoing, wise, responsable, understanding and dominating…

” There is no saving us”

This story is so heart touching, wrenching gripping but most of all raw and intense.

I found myself with tears running down my cheeks.I won’t say much about this story because jump in blind. This isn’t a book fo everyone so take the trigger warning to heart.

I can’t wait to read more from this author

  22. ria_s_25

    OMGGGGGG..
Like this book is literally the most taboo book ever!! If there is one author who can compile all my damn triggers in a book and then make me read that book and then make me love that book too , it is definitely Nyla lmao.

Cyrus and Colson will take their place in your heart and won’t ever leave. The angst god , the angst is always the best part for me in this author’s books. The way she writes and those scenes she describes , they just hit the hardest all the time. You will feel every single one until you are so attached to the characters , to every single character in fact , that you will ;augh with them , cry with them and just feel everything for them.

I will mention that this book is not for everyone for sure. All boundaries have been crossed when it comes to triggers and this book might not sit well with many many people. I totally understand that part but if somehow you are willing to look beyond that and want a book that completely unravels you in the most amazingly painful ways , then pick this MM standalone up! It’s everything that an angst-loving heart like me desires.

    So…
NYLA K IS A FREAKING GENIUS AND
I’M MADLY IN LOVE WITH HER MIND!!!
She is able to create sucha strong amazing women, BUT HER MEN !!!
    They are something else
They just take a place in your heart and refuse to leave!!

So i decided i’m gonna move in Nyla’s mind with her men and i’m gonna enjoy watching them doing dirty things to each other

That being said, let’s talk about Double Edged.

    1.  It’s mindblowing amazing.
I mean, i knew it would have been another masterpiece but it’s even better than I thought

    2. It’s damn emotional, with many heavy topics, and heartbreaking moments that made my eyes watery.

    3. It’s hot, and I mean REALLY HOOOTT
She knows how to make you sweat and squirm in your sit, while reading those scenes.
I can honestly say she is the best.

    4. I love Tauren. He is so dominant and caring  *swooning*
The “bad hero” everyone want in his life.

    5. I love the twins, Cyrus and Colson.
Cyrus, the genius, the good twin.
Colson, the troublemaker, the bad twin.
One can’t live without the other.
The connection, the love between the two of them is one of the thing I loved the most.
But to be honest Colson is the one who owns
    my heart.

    6. The angst made me almost throw my kindle from the window, mostly because of Carla the b*tch

    7. As usually when it comes to relationships that involve more than two people, Nyla took her time to built each bond before the thouple’s.
Nevertheless the dynamic between these three really works and you can sense the affection and the love they feel for each other.
    It’s heartwarming.

    8. It’s a journey about three beautiful souls that gonna lead them to understand that ” , * . , .
    ‘ * “. AMEN

    I think that’s it.
If these aren’t enough reasons for you to read Double Edged you’re all fools

You know when there are so many good parts, you don’t even know where to start? That’s where I am right now. I will say this book is TABOO. If you don’t do TABOO, don’t even bother picking it up. Seriously, you won’t have a good time. That being said, if you think you’ll like this book, read the authors foreward for warnings, then have at it.

Nyla really does forbidden, wrong, and taboo so well, and does it in a way that makes the character’s motivations, love, and angst feel like the most important parts. The love, acceptance, and devotion these characters showed each other created such beautiful moments between each other. While this is MMM, she makes it so that each character’s relationships with the others are developed, as are their group relationships.

I will tell you there is a character that everyone will dislike in this book, and 100% with reason. The way a parent could be that out of touch with her kids, and heck, morality is just wrong. There are going to be some parts that really make you think, some that break your heart, but at the end Nyla builds a perfect ending.

By now, everyone probably knows how much I love Nyla and her books. She definitely knows how to write spice and she knows how to push those boundaries, and I Fucking love it. The spice in this book is top Fucking tier. There are so many scenes that I already wish I could go back and read for the first time. ⠀

I love how the relationships between these three are separate as much as they are together. The twins have an incredible bond, obviously, and would do anything for one another. Then Tauren comes into the picture and he offers each boy something different. Something they are missing and desperately need. They all let each other be their true selves and it’s as hot as it is beautiful. ⠀

Cyrus is incredibly smart, but suffers from severe anxiety. I related to him heavily with his anxiety. He is innocent in many ways, and struggles with his feelings toward Colson, and then toward Tauren. ⠀

Colson is the broken bad boy who just wants to he loved. He’s obviously my favorite, and my heart broke for him throughout the book. He struggles with mental health issues and is treated like an outsider by his parents. ⠀

Daddy Tauren is . He’s wealthy, but self-made. Him and his buddies run a really fucking cool start up company – really, it’s cool. He also has this part of himself that he keeps locked up, and the twins help him explore it and be truly himself. ⠀

I highly, highly recommend this book if you’re okay with the taboo aspects. It’s spicy as hell, it’s the right amount of emotional, and it’s just fucking amazing. Period.

This book was one that I was so excited to read after learning that it was coming several weeks ago. When I went on Amazon to check it out with my Kindle Unlimited subscription I was crushed that it had already been banned! I did a Google search to try to find out more info and I came across a free copy of the book. This is something I never do since I typically stay in the KU community or buy a physical copy. So, I am ashamed to say, I took the free copy to read the book without fully thinking. I read it over the course of 48 hours because it was both a THICC book, but also highly engrossing. After I read this amazing work, I felt so guilty that I was able to enjoy such a phenomenal book and the fantastic author that I am a fan of was not going to benefit for her writing. So I did more searching, came across Nyla K’s posts about the book being on Eden, immediately purchased this book, and deleted the pirated version. And this will definitely be a newly purchased book that I come back to read again and again and again, it was that amazing.

Now on to the book review, this is more or less tied with Push for my favorite Nyla K. book. I may need to do more reflecting, but it was an amazing read and certainly a heavier one than Push. The TW are real, so this obviously isn’t for everyone, but it was so steamy, hot, emotional, heavy, and hit me right in the feels. Colson was such a lost soul, desperate to find his way, and understand both himself and find others to understand him. To accept him for who he is. And boy, did he find two amazing people. Cyrus was who I identified most with, who radiated such light, but also wanted to be bad. He had so much love to give. Daddy Tauren was not at all what I expected, but he was so needed. He saved these boys, but these boys saved him, too. When he was all in with his twins, he was all in. The three of them complimented one another so beautifully, it just took some time for us to get there. I honestly hope Nyla revisits these characters because they were so beautifully developed and brilliantly created, this can’t be the last we see of them living their amazing life together. That would make me sad. I wasn’t sure if a certain phone call in Cyrus’ epilogue was hinting at a potential future conflict the trio would face and (maybe) a sequel or novella to dig into that. Give us more of the Becker-Vance trio!!

I am glad I have held off reading some of Nyla’s other books because when I finish them, I don’t to leave those worlds. I’ve read the Midnight City series, Push, the Pull novella, and the Unwrap Him novella (I hope we see more of Jesse and James, because they were so hot lol). But I have kept the Alabaster Pen books, Serpent in White, and To Burn in Brutal Rapture on my watch list to space out how frequent I consume Nyla’s work because I never not enjoy it. I will pick one of those in a few weeks to read. Hopefully by then we will know what the next book from Nyla will be…I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

I was just completely mind blown by this book. I need more of these characters.
You are literally sucked into the story from the first couple of pages.
Double Edged is more then a MMM love story between brothers and their stepfather.
It’s about depression, mental health issues, bad family dynamics and upbringing, social anxiety. You can tell that Nyla K did her research.
Cy and Colsen deserve the world, and they also deserve for people to be able to read their story.
I wasn’t sure how Tauren was going to fit into the story, but he was actually what the twins needed. He was able to bring the twins together in a way they wouldn’t of been able to. He let them be happy and themselves. With him they could stop sneaking around and truly live.. and f*ck what the world says is wrong.
“Let’s show step daddy how to bad”. ohhh and when you get to Ch. 21 Nyla says Your Welcome haha.
I have to say that this might be my favorite book by Nyla K, and if you read Serpent and white which is a work of art then you know for this book to top that is saying a lot. 5 book all the way!

Double-Edged is an extremely taboo MMM book that you will not be able to put down. This story is not for everyone but if this trope is your jam, you will be in love with this book. This story is intense and deals with heavy issues in a very raw and emotional manner. These characters are struggling but find what they need in each other despite the fact they don’t fit into society’s form of normalcy. The writing is excellent as always with this author. She has an amazing talent of developing mesmerizing stories full of love and characters that fight for each other and their right to be together.

  29. Katie Wilmore

I love this book, I love these characters and I love how much Nyla’s writing grows with every book while still staying 100% identifiable as her work.

I’m not going to go into the taboo aspects of this book because if you’re looking into it, surely you’re aware by now. This is a truly character driven story and I absolutely love how different yet intertwined they all are. The steam is absolutely top notch – plan to change your panties- in the way that Nyla does so well.

I had the absolute pleasure of beta reading an early version of this story and am so impressed with the direction Nyla ended up taking it. It’s always so amazing to have a sneak peek at a writer’s process. When the story didn’t feel like it was giving the characters the justice they deserved, Nyla stripped it all down and made it right even though it gave her about twice as much work. I love the dedication she has to her craft and characters and the respect she shows her readers by making the best story possible.

Everything you shouldn’t want, everything you shouldn’t crave, everything you shouldn’t. That’s what this book is. It’s beautiful. It’s so intense and full of raw emotions and desires. Colson and Cyrus have this insane pull, this bond that is beyond what twins should feel. You bring in Tauren and everything explodes.
This deep, dark, burning desire is unleashed. Temptations can no longer be avoided.
    There’s so much.
So many things are experienced and just make you feel. It’s told in a way that while you know it’s extremely taboo, it doesn’t feel like it is. It’s right. Their love is unbreakable. They have this way of fighting the outside world. Telling them all what they think and just bringing out all the emotions.
I laughed, I raged, tears of happiness also appeared. I couldn’t get enough. Then to top it all off, we see a glimpse of another character, a small peek, that makes it all even better.
I loved it. Absolutely loved it.

  31. Amanda Anderson

I haven’t stopped thinking about Perfect, Precious and Daddy. I have a hangover and there is no cure

This book, WOW OMG THIS BOOK! I am left feeling SO MANY ACHING FEELINGS! But most of all, I am GIDDY writing this review! I am already missing these men!!! This was my favorite book of Nyla K’s, my absolute top book read of the year AND AND AND, if you know me you KNOWWWW how much I treasure my taboo, my cesty stuff. AND THIS WAS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE CEST BOOKS! I am smiling while writing this review. I smiled while reading (almost) the whole book. Except for those horrendous parts that only Nyla K can pull out of a book. There were times when I ACTUALLY thought she was going to do something really bad. Like give us a terrible ending. I actually had to do some investigating myself and ask if anyone would be killed because I had this pit in my stomach. I was at the halfway point, I was already SO in love with these men and I was thinking I didn’t know if I would even be ABLE to finish if something happened. My heart and mind wouldn’t be able to mend itself with this kind of heartache.
The instantaneous love Cyrus and Colson had for each other was not only so natural and real but ALL CONSUMING. I FELT IT IN MY BONES. It was not only a need for them to be with each other but a need for ME. Cyrus, the good twin, with his nerdy shy love and how he was the loner of the two and always felt he had to live up to everyone’s perfect expectations of him. How he always kind of knew he was into guys but needed to explore. And Colson, the bad twin, with his bad ways that drinks and does drugs, the extrovert and the one who was the most lost of the two. Who thinks he knows who he is and what he wants but doesn’t because nobody really cares about him except Cyrus. That is until Tauren.
The only good thing their “mom” did during this entire book was meet that man. This daddy was the finest specimen that has entered Nyla’s realm. His love and attentiveness for these boys right from the get go told me he would be the best, most nurturing thing for them and HE WAS. I loved the dominance he used with them and how he got to be his true self with them. How he knew what to do with Colson and he knew what Cyrus needed to balance him out as well. Most of all I loved how we got to see his authentic self.
Now, the SEX. W O W. The sex was out of this WORLD phenom-nom-nom. From the sex between just Cyrus and Colson, to Colson and Tauren, to Tauren and Cyrus, to Cyrus, Colson and Tauren! The passion was so intense I felt like I was holding my breath during 99.99999% of the entire book.
I am sitting here trying to think if there is anything I would change about this book and I cannot think of a single thing. Not one. It was the most precious perfect thing I ever held in my hands. OHH OHHH OHHH AND THAT SURPRISE CHARACTER!!! WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT?!?!?!?! Does this mean anything? Timeline wise? When I seen this certain person Isat up straight, read the parts, then went back and read it all over again with a big smile on my face. You see, THAT is what Nyla K does to her readers. She makes them fall SO in love with her characters, when they get a tiny GLIMPSE of them in another book it feels like a GIFT.
Those epilogues soothed my soul. That is all. I want to re-read this book a million times. Then go back and read it some more. It is engraved in me. I could not give this book anything but the highest amount of stars possible.

  32. JESSI

A true taboo masterpiece!! Double-edged is everything wicked, and delicious you shouldn’t crave. Twins, who are as equally alike as they are different and the one man they shouldn’t want but they crave.

“That it’s okay if I’m wicked inside. Because you guys are, too.”

Colson & Cyrus might be identical twins, but they are vastly different. Cyrus is the golden child, the good twin who is supposed to go far and make his parents proud. Colson is the rebel without a cause, the bad twin who will forever be a disappointment to his parents. The one thing that these two have in common besides their looks is the one thing that they both crave. The one thing that if it ever got out could ruin everything. In secret, they are much more than friends, they share something they shouldn’t and while they know what they are doing is wrong they can’t help it. The lingering gazes, wandering hands they share with one another in the dark of night.

Tauren has always been responsible. He always wanted to be the savior and while he never expected it to happen this way. Marrying their mother was the right thing to do because even if he didn’t know it yet those boys needed him. One needed him in a way that made his mind and body come to life and the other needed him to help him feel what it is like to be cherished. It was never supposed to go this far but you can’t go back. Now that Tauren knows what it is like to have these boys there is nothing that will come between them. He will do whatever he has to make sure they are his.

What happens in the dark of night never seems to stay there. What happens when secrets are revealed? When limits are tested? And what happens when the only thing you’ve ever craved is pulled from you just as quickly as you got it?

Ladies, gentleman, and all you nonbinary babes in between this story is going to shatter every single ceiling you thought Nyla had already shattered. Not only did this book have the same kind of raw emotions you have come to expect from Nyla, but she outdid herself on the steam. SERIOUSLY! A couple of times I had to stop and just breathe because I thought I would combust.

While I can’t really pick a favorite of this book if I had to, I am going to go with Daddy Tauren all the way. That man just blew me away with not only the power he seemed to hold over those boys which was nothing short of intoxicating. It was the way he cared for them so tenderly even Colson because let’s be real, that boy is hard to love.

I’ve probably gone on too long at this point, but I just loved this book so much! Nyla K done did this damn thing and I love all three of these boys for exactly who they are. Imperfections and all!!

  33. Lindsay Emple (verified owner)

OMG Nyla! This freaking book! My emotions are all over the place. Nyla K is the Queen of taboo and age gap romance. These three beautifully broken characters stole my heart. I adored every piece of them, and seeing them put those fragments back together after so much pain was magic.

Cyrus and Colson are identical twins with very different personalities and toxic parents. Cyrus is the “good twin.” He is a genius and does very well academically. However, he has crippling social anxiety. Colson is the “bad twin.” He fights, parties, and also struggles with mental illness. He is happiest with his guitar and when he is spending alone time with his brother. Tauren, their stepfather, is a self made billionaire with a bit of a hero complex.

There was a lot of emotional struggle in this book especially over the ideas of right vs wrong and good vs bad. Colson was by far my favorite character. I was rooting so hard for his happiness. Although his relationship with Cyrus was so deep, I loved the dynamic that he developed with Tauren. There was also a lot of spice in this book. It is an absolute panty soaker. I also have to mention a very exciting appearance by a character from Alabaster Penitentiary. I love that these books are all in the same universe!

Go check the trigger and content warnings for this book, then go read it!

  34. melissamdoughty (verified owner)

This book, a-fucking-mazing! Nyla did not hold back with this story one bit! The characters have depth and completely drive this story. I lived in this book – every single page.

The twins. The beautiful broken boys. They are the yin and yang to each other. The two half’s of a whole. Their parents are absolutely broke them. Did Cyrus and Colson find solace in each other, yes. Did their relationship go against society’s acceptance, also yes. Did it feel wrong when reading it, no it didn’t at all.

Tauren the dark knight, the bad hero, the dominant older stepfather. He saved the boys. But the boys also saved Tauren. The three of them healed the shattered parts of each other’s hearts and souls.

This book was a perfect balance of salacious spice, self discovery, brokenness, and the power of love to heal. I am in awe of how Nyla so eloquently wrote about mental health battles. I am actually just in awe of Nyla as a whole this book had my heart in a vice and a hand wrapped around my throat the whole time. I love these boys so much!

There are many potential triggers in this book. It definitely is not for every reader. Nyla wrote a very detailed foreword (also in a post on her IG) and I highly suggest you read that in full. Again, know yourself before you read this or any book. If you decide this is a book for you I highly highly highly recommend it!

I have been (not very) patiently waiting for this release and it did no disappoint. This is my new favourite book by Nyla K. The writing is next level and you are immersed in the story from the first sentence till the very end.

Yes this story is taboo, however it is so well done that you (almost) forget. Definitely check triggers before you start, as is mentioned before the book begins.

The things C & C have been subjected to in their lives 100% make them the characters you will fall in love with. The way the T comes in to fold is believable and seeing how his own relationships with C & C develop was *chefs kiss*

Definitely recommend this book if you like taboo books.

  36. Ivy

If you like taboo…just read it. It’s absolutely amazing. Nyla is an awesome writer.

An absolutely mesmerising and erotic love story. SO damn hot! Characters and a plot that pull you in and don’t let go.

  38. Kay

Double Edged is without a doubt the most taboo book I’ve read to date. Nyla K gave us a story that was highly emotional, steamy, forbidden and so well written I was fully engrossed from beginning to end. This is an MMM love story between twins and their step father and although taboo, the story doesn’t feel wrong, it feels right for these characters.
It was an intense tale that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and you will feel it all on behalf of these characters. It will push every single boundaries and then push some more. This novel takes you on an incredible journey and deals with mental health issues, neglect, bullying, manipulation, drug use, abuse, hiding who you are and so much more. Colson, Cyrus and Tauren were amazing well developed characters who were all likable and as the story progressed, it became obvious how much they all really needed each other. Their steamy scenes were sizzling and the passion and tension was also way off the charts. This is a story about love, self discovery and acceptance. PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNING BEFORE STARTING. This was another fantastic tale from this author and I loved it. I would highly recommend it to lovers of Taboo romance.

  39. Kelsey Schulze

WoW….this is an absolute epic masterpiece!!!!
I feel that I just went through one intense experience where my heart was violently removed, while slowly being stitched back together.

Double-Edged covers a variety of topics spanning from taboo/forbidden love, complex mental health issues, and traumatic abuse. This complicated and angsty love story includes twin brothers and their stepfather.

The story features two broken boys who battle their own inner demons while seeking comfort from one another given their heartbreakingly lonely home life where both are misunderstood and ignored. Their only solace is each other, which makes their relationship even more painful to navigate.

After many significant life changes and upheavals for both Colson and Cyrus, they find a beacon of hope in the form of their stepfather Tauren, who manages to meet all of their different needs, while making them both feel safe and loved, which has been missing so much in their lives.

Double-Edged was more than I expected and is my favorite taboo romance where all emotions were felt and made me so happy when all three finally saw their HEA realized.
All in all, I’m so grateful the nerd and his emo twin found their Dark Knight…

  40. [email protected]

The Author herself warns you at the beginning of this book that “This book will absolutely, undoubtedly not be for everyone” and I agree with that 100%, but personally I loved this story.

With Double-edged, you are in for one emotional, STEAMY, heartbreaking story. All of my worries about this taboo romance were quickly erased as Cyrus and Colson’s story began to unfold. This isn’t just a taboo/forbidden trope written for shock value. It is so much more than that. These boys have this unique connection with each other that, in a large part, stems from neglect and manipulation. They deal with mental illness and almost debilitating anxiety. They have been brought up in an environment that has taught them that they need to hide who they are. When Tauren enters the picture, he’s the first person who has seen BOTH of these boys as unique and WORTHY. Yes, the relationship between these three characters becomes complicated and even they know that it’s bad, but these boys truly are soul mates. They need each other and they need Tauren, and my heart broke for all three of them.

I didn’t all out cry while reading this book, but I did tear up many times. All of the issues within this book: mental illness, drug use, bullying, homophobia, parental neglect — they are all handled respectfully. There is a lot of added drama that really takes the reader on one wild ride, and it’s honestly a ride that I didn’t want to get off of. There are plenty of messages in this book, but the biggest one is the same message that is in every Nyla K. book: LOVE IS LOVE. That sums up this book perfectly, but again, I urge you to proceed with caution and only pick this one up if you can do so with a very open mind.

  41. Felicia (verified owner)

I don’t have many books that I wish I could give well over 5 stars to but this one is definitely one of them! I’m not even sure 10 stars would be enough!
Sit down and buckle up for a story that will challenge how you view right and wrong in this world. It will make you question what makes a hero a hero, and a villain a villain. That grey area in between right/wrong and good/evil is where it lives in its entirety. From the first 2% of the book I was sucked in with these characters. Well, mainly Cyrus and Colson, because that is where the focus is, a couple of years before Tauren enters the picture. Very quickly you are able to see how certain aspects of their lives at home effects them both, especially when it comes to each other. This story is not shy in the slightest about jumping right in and sparking those questions in your mind about things that are playing out, and the result of them doing so. As time moves forward over the first couple of years the connection between these two guys begins to grow beyond what it already is, despite all the reasons it shouldn’t or how hard they fight it. Then Tauren enters their lives and everything they thought they knew is suddenly changing. What they don’t realize at first is how much things are changing for him as well. How he is finding out things about himself he had written off in the past as nothing more than circumstance. Now, however, those things are becoming harder to ignore and it is all slowly coming to light. There’s no more hiding.
It’s impossible for me to read this and not know the whole time that yes this type of relationship on all sides is extremely frowned upon, some aspects more than others. However, in the early days when it’s just Cyrus and Colson, that issue is more up front for me than it is later in the book. The thoughts in their inner monologues make it clear they are both really struggling with it but cannot seem to stop because the feelings there are just to strong. Somehow deep down, even though they don’t want to admit it, these feelings go beyond the physical to a bond that is unlike any other they will ever experience with anyone else. One that no matter what will never go away. There in the middle of it all you see how each guy is dealing with mental health issues, which lets face it, never makes things easier. I found myself hurting so bad for them and the things they were going through outside of these newfound feelings for each other. As Tauren comes in to their lives those insecurities and worries shift to include him, who all of a sudden is faced with an identity crisis of his own. When all of their walls come down though and they give into these urges and feelings there is really no easing into things. They pretty much dive head in and explore what they can offer each other only to find out it’s exactly what they’ve been needing but missing from their lives.
Cyrus is my sweetheart of a guy. He cares so deeply and is the nicest and most caring person even when life has given him every reason to believe he shouldn’t be. Tauren is my ‘live in the grey area’ hero. He has so much love to give and genuinely cares about others while having this need to be in complete control. Then there is Colson… my sweet sweet Colson. This is the one I connected with right away. The one that I saw so much of myself in. When I found out what his diagnosis truly is I felt even more connected to him, because it mirrors my own, and I could see pieces of that in his character before it was even made clear to the reader. The struggle of being misdiagnosed for years is very dear to my heart and seeing that getting taken advantage of with him, how it ultimately hurt him, gutted me. He is the one deemed “bad” by the people who are supposed to love, protect, and care for him most. He is so broken and misunderstood that I could feel my soul crying for him from the very beginning of this story. While all 3 guys go through self discovery and growth here I feel like Colson grows the most by the time it’s all over. I can’t express how hard I cried over his character or how deeply attached I felt to him as I was coming up on the end of the book. He is the reason that the “wrongness” of their situation started to fade away from the front of my mind and settle in the background. It just wasn’t as important to me anymore, all of the “why” it’s so wrong, because I just wanted to see Colson happy, safe, loved, cherished, and thriving. If anyone deserves a happy ending it is this guy here. He’s been through so much more than anyone realizes, and in some ways, has had to deal with it completely alone from a young age into adulthood. My heart still hurts for him and will do so well after finishing this book.
It has also been a minute where I have been so extremely mad at a side character/true villain of a story. So don’t be surprised when you find yourself wanting to reach into a book and dismember someone to take the edge off lol. In the end, even though things are still complicated, the ending worked out in the only way I feel it could have. There is no big romantic fairytale, riding off into the sunset, happily ever after here. Let’s be honest, that’s not exactly realistic unless you’re reading a fantasy novel. But, that doesn’t mean the ending doesn’t have joy and happiness. I think the fact that the ending is as realistic as it can possibly be makes the most sense and truly completes the story without the need for any further closure.
Oh and when you finish please go read the author’s note at the end. It really explains the whole purpose of this book, what should be the focus, and what you should be taking away from it. How sometimes it’s not always about what is deemed “right” or “wrong” by society. That our imperfections can be the most amazing and beautiful thing, if we let them be. It truly only made me love this author even more than I already do.
Finally, possibly my favorite line from the entire book. “This is it. The baddest good.” ♥

Officially an Amazon Banned Author!

Indie author of Flipping Hot Fiction. I write big books and I cannot lie, *insert smirky face* of the often taboo, dark and forbidden romance varieties.

I love to write what I love to read: dark, dirty, and DIFFERENT smutty and taboo erotic love stories. My books are not for the faint of heart. Meaning I'm still getting used to being able to look people in the eye after they tell me they've read my books. But it's a work in progress.

I like my books sexy, maybe a little humorous, with tons of angst and real drama. They are always relevant, and boundary-pushing... But mostly, I love them unique and well-written. Life's too short to read the same story redone over and over. I also believe in having an open mind, when reading and just in life. I don't personally believe in backing away from triggers, so that's what you'll get with Nyla K books.

Reading should broaden our horizons and open our minds. That's what I set out to do with my writing. If even just one person gets that, then I've done my job :)
