This was my first time stepping outside my comfort zone and into the realm of werewolf erotica. I feel like I’m the wrong kind of person to be reviewing a work like this since I don’t really have much to compare it to, but make of that what you will. To be honest, I feel like the sex scenes in this kind of lose something when one of the participants loses their ability to speak. I realize that that is part of their transformation and part of the animalistic nature of their lust, that they are so turned on and craven and animal-like that there is a part of their humanness that gets lost, but as a reader I do kind of miss the back-and-forth lusty dialogue that Rowan/Marian is so good at writing.
Exploring the sexual dynamics and history of the tribe was a delight, even if the sexual tension between Min and Sergen never quite seems to reach the heights of their first encounter (where a lack of communication from Sergen is, counter-intuitively, one of the things that makes that encounter work so well). I loved the love that Min and her mother had for each other, and I loved the inter-tribal conflict that was introduced.
As a whole, this story feels like a smaller and incomplete part of a larger story. Much like with Lost At Sea, while the sex is hot, the narrative feels like it is lacking a proper conclusion – it gets to what feels like two thirds of the way through and then it just kind of stops. I think Rowan/Marian would be extremely good at writing an erotic work in e.g. a Game of Thrones-type fantasy setting where she would be able to explore the darker and animalistic elements that she enjoys writing about, as well as the family dynamics that she excels at portraying the lustiness of. In short: I really want to see more of their work, cause they’ve got something going on!
