Halftime Benefits: Serving My Brother and His Friends

Excerpt:

“Hey Sis, I have a business proposal for you,” my brother announced. He’s actually my stepbrother, but we’ve always been close, even after our parents divorced.

“I’m listening.”

“Do you want to make some extra money during the football game on Sunday?”

“Sure! What’s the catch?”

“I’m having a party for the big game and inviting some business associates over that I’m trying to impress. It would be great if I had someone there willing to serve us drinks and appetizers and be friendly.”

“Yeah, I’d love to! This semester has been extra expensive. You can’t believe what medical textbooks cost!”

“Great! I’ll pay you a flat fee and there will definitely be tips.”

This surprised me, I waited tables part time to make money for school but sometimes I helped out at private events and small parties.

But a party like this rarely involved tips. What was my dear brother up to?

“This must be a fancy gig if you think they will tip me.”

“Well,” he hesitated, “that’s just it, these guys are kind of, um, rough, and have a lot of expectations, but they’re usually very generous tippers.”

“What do you mean by rough? What are you getting me into Brian?” I demanded

“They’re not so polite. I mean they enjoy the company of pretty women and they may want to take a few liberties.”

Dead silence.

“You still there sis?”

“I’m here, but you’ve lost your mind if you think I will wait on your friends only to get groped and prodded by complete strangers!”

“But you’d be the perfect person to do this, I know they‘d love you and the money should be great. Plus, I’m willing to pay you $500 for the evening.”

“$500 just to serve your handsy, rude friends? Plus tips? This sounds like a lot more than just serving drinks and appetizers.”

The truth was, this excited me more than I was willing to admit. I‘ve always had a secret crush on Brian, but he‘s my stepbrother so I’ve said nothing about it.
