Revenge Served Hot

Excerpt:

I stared at J.S.

“So?” I finally challenged.

“So, since your father didn’t finish his contract, you’ll take his place.”

“I’m not a financial planner. I’d probably bankrupt you.” Why was I goading him?

“Perhaps I should state it more clearly. You will be taking your mother’s place.”

“Dusting? Vacuuming? Okay. Let me put on an apron.”

He sighed, as though I was his recalcitrant teenager. “Curbing your tongue is going to be the first thing that we work on. No, my dear, your mother was a ‘comfort woman.’ ”

“What, like in Japan during World War Two?” I tossed the description out casually.

He fixed me with a stare. “Yes, Livvi, exactly like that.”

And I think that was the first moment I’d let myself think about my mother’s life. I’d never wanted details. I don’t think my mother ever knew that I knew anything. And since the day my father had told me, I’d never asked about it again.

“No. No. Fucking. Way.”

“Yes, Livvi. Yes. Fucking. Way. There’s thirteen months left in the contract, and you will serve them here, on your knees, and on your back, fucking and being fucked.”

Before my brain knew what my muscles had planned, I turned and ran.

This book almost made me glad it was a short story as I’m not sure l could have handled a full-length novel with this level of intensity. Sue T.
