The Player in New Zealand: A Grumpy Boss Romantic Comedy
$4.99
Heat Level
HIGH HEAT: multiple open-door sex scenes with descriptive physical details, some body fluids, and some adult words for body parts. Physical intimacy is part of the plot.
That surly ex-rugby player making a ruckus in the dark corner of the bar I work at? Yeah, I try to avoid him. Too bad he’s my boss.
I thought I was grumpy AF, but I’ve met my match. Tane has two moods when I see him in the bar he co-owns with his sister: grouchy in a dark corner or reliving his rugby days with a rowdy group that likes to cause trouble. I steer clear at all costs—the last thing I need is more male drama in my life after my stalker ex. He’s why I came to New Zealand—to escape.
When my closest friend in the country—who happens to be Tane’s sister—asks me for a huge favor, I can’t say no. Now I’m Tane’s fake date to a family wedding, and it turns out he is trying to turn his life around.
Traveling in New Zealand opens my eyes to more than just Lord of the Rings fandom and sheep. I didn’t expect to fall in love with the country . . . or Tane.

From the moment I picked up this book I didn’t want to put it down. The story pulled me in and I fell in love with Tane & Claire. Claire moves to New Zealand to get away from a bad “relationship” and ends up working in a bar that Tane owns. Tane is a grumpy retired rugby player who is using alcohol to cope with life. Tane see’s he needs to make a change and Claire is a great support to him. Claire gets roped into being Tane’s fake girlfriend for a family wedding and the two agree to be friends with benefits for a night…. but can they hold to their arrangement?
One of my favorite things about this author is how much time she spends teaching the readers about new locations and cultures. I now have a new destination added to my bucket list. While this book is full of sweet, funny parts, there is also some heavy subject matter that gets addressed: Domestic Violence & Alcoholism.
If you enjoy sweet, thoughtful reads, I encourage you to check out this book and the others in this series.
