Even though I tried to stay awake, I woke up when the mattress dipped next to me.

“Husband?” I called out.

“Yes, my Light,” Erik answered, closer than I had imagined.

“Can I touch you?” I asked.

Erik remained quiet for such a long time I wanted to revoke my question, but after a heavy breath, he said. “If you wish.”

“I do,” I said, sitting up and scooting closer to my warm husband.

His body radiated warmth, and I could almost imagine seeing it vibrate in the dark, but that was probably an illusion. I stretched out my hand in the dark, and he met it with his.

“Can you see?” I asked.

“Yes. Bears have good night vision and I have been granted the ability even when I am in human form.”

“That hardly seems fair,” I pouted.

“With patience, you will be able to see me soon enough, my wife. Only one more night after this one, and our lives together, can start. You can see me so much you will probably grow tired of me.”

I laughed, squeezing his hand. “I doubt I would grow tired seeing a King.”

“What about seeing your husband?” Erik asked.

“I would like to see you,” I said, lifting up my other hand and caressing his arm all the way up to his shoulder. “But I will start with feeling you.”
